The Mo Tribe
The Mo keep the desert for Oschon,
so may He wander and still be greeted by His people.

THOSE WHO WANDER Generations back two brothers of the M tribe vied for the title of nunh. The elder won and cast his brother out unto the desert of Gyr Abania. There he wandered until near death. Out of the dunes arose a great sand worm sure to swallow the man whole. Yet he stood before the great maw and let go his fear and it passed before him, guiding the man unto the safety of a cliffside cave. There he greeted others lead to the desert and the tribe took its name from the humble desert mouse that survives in places where many do not. They have kept to the deep desert ever since, taking in others lost to the dunes and only coming close to the small towns when in dire need. To many locals they may have heard of the tribe in passing but laying eyes on a Mo was a rare sight indeed. This changed when the Empire began to push into the territory and not even the secretive Mo were not spared their iron grip.Since Ala Mhigo's liberation the Mo have returned to their homelands to find some of their deep desert shelters inaccessible, their technology stolen, their numbers lessened, their way of life teetering on the edge. Yet they persist; patient and dedicated to the cause of keeping the dunes ready for Oschon's return.THE DESERT TRAINS THE FAITHFUL The Mo worship Oschon the Traveler, but hold the rest of the Twelve in high regard. Their ways have been shaped by the brutal nature of the dunes, strict in many ways that outsiders might find barbaric or downright strange. Water and its scarcity dictates most of the Mo's traditions and the structure of their tribes. They live were people rightly should not live, thanks in part to their resourcefulness and tenacity. Dew collectors, wind traps, super efficient water storage, aeroponics, and suits to enhance their survivability out on the dunes aid more aetherical means of survival, though some of these technologies have been lost due to the Empire's invasion and the passage of time.ON KNIFE'S EDGE Currently the Mo are struggling to keep their way of life even more so than ever before. Many of their northern most sietches, safe places, are out of reach and presumed destroyed. Many perished to the Garleans, some scattered into Eorzean life and the softness of the cities, never to return. Those who remain face an uncertain future, one teetering on their deeply held traditions and necessity that a post-Calamity world brings.THEIR EYES MARK THEM All members of the Mo tribe have pale blue eyes. Not a boon in the desert where the sun can be harsh, but they claim Oschon himself gives them this visible distinction to mark them as his especially. Within living memory, Xilhi joined the tribe with verdant green eyes from her home in the Black Shroud. Within a cycle her eyes took on this pale blue hue, having fully embraced life upon the dunes. Each tribe member also carries with them two things; a knife made from the tooth of a sand worm and a string of metal markers known as water rings.

OSCHON'S FAITHFUL Those living in most parts of Gyr Abania may be passingly familiar with the M tribe and their distant cousins, the Mo. Infrequently pairs of tribeswomen make the journey to civilization proper for supplies. These trips have become more frequent in recent cycles but are still rare enough to be worth taking note.REFUGEES As the Empire pushed into Ala Mhigan territory they also scoured the deserts, not even the Mo were spared their wroth. Several branches of the tribe took shelter among Ala Mhigan refugees encampments or were otherwise trapped in Gyr Abania when the great wall was erected. They have striven to keep their ways in secret and to return one day to their beloved desert sietches.GHOSTS OF THE SHROUD During the Empire reign there would be rumors of a strange tribe deep in the forest of the Shroud. Sightings were very rare, almost a ghost story only to vanish completely as the Eorzean Alliance began its push into Gyr Abania and Ala Mhigo liberation.THE LOST SON AND WAYWARD DAUGHTER Mo'rtojhi, the lost son long thought dead, has recently returned to the tribe. He seeks to strike a balance between his past and present with the aid of his sister Mo'rtajha who traveled to Eorzea in search of him. Having a taste of a wider world, Rtajha is eager to see what the next adventure is to await her and her brother as they chart a future unknown.
Inspiration and OOC Contact
A very heavy influence for the Mo tribe are the Fremen from Frank Herbert's Dune, adapted into the FFXIV framework. Some terms and phrases are borrowed outright from the books and I make no claim to them. This is simply a tribute to one of my favorite book series so some liberties have been taken, mixing with other influences as well. Please do not expect the tribe to be a carbon copy of the Fremen.Interested in interacting with the tribe? The best way is through interacting with Mo'rtojhi or his sister Mo'rtajha, both of which I play in game.
